26 MAR 2008
On March 26th,
a female King student was approached in a threatening manner by two men in a car
near Mission Village. The men were described as African American and in their
20’s. The car they were driving was a turquoise Thunderbird with no plates.
The King
administration would like to use this incident as a reminder to all students
about the continued importance of observing safe walking practices. We
encourage you to speak with your children about the importance of walking with a
friend, avoiding all strangers, and reporting all incidents to appropriate
authorities.
Here is the
report from School Resource Officer Mark Reddick:
On 03-26-08 at
about 0800 Hrs, a female student was walking to school in the area of Mission
Village and Mission Grove. A turquoise Thunderbird pulled in front of her and
stopped on the street. The passenger of the vehicle climbed out of the window
and started walking to the student. The vehicle made a u-turn and waited on the
opposite side of the street (facing W/B Mission Village). The passenger then
walked to the student and put out his arms as if to hug/grab her. The student
side stepped the suspect and took off running towards K-mart where a witness
stopped to help. The suspects drove away.

At
approximately 2:45, on Thursday February 7th, a verbal altercation,
which ultimately escalated into a physical confrontation, occurred at the
Rivercrest Plaza shopping center (Boboloca, Wing Stop, etc…) on the NE corner of
Wood Rd and Van Buren Blvd.
There were several adult males involved in
the incident, none of whom are King High students; however, one of the adult
males involved has two siblings who attend our school.
Our School Resource Officer (SRO), Officer
Reddick, along with several other members of the Riverside Police Department (RPD)
responded to quell the situation, and an air unit was dispatched to provide
additional information to the officers involved in the situation.
As you might suspect, there were countless
King students in the area, as it is a common pick-up location used by parents to
transport their students to and from school each day. To date, our SRO and
other members of RPD are conducting an on-going investigation into the events
and circumstances surrounding the incident.
As information and facts are gathered, and
as needed, I will update students, parents, and King staff if appropriate.
